UK CHARITY PRECINCT

Welcome to UKCHARITYPRECINCT a site that promotes numerous UK registered charities you can donate to or find out about them. Clicking on the logos will take you to that well respected charities website or charity shop. Alternatively you can pick a charity by random, from the words displayed. Each word represents an area of work that is associated with that charity. Charities portrayed in this way are ones involved in various fields eg Conservation, Children, Cancer, hospices, poverty, heart, lung and kidney conditions etc . In effect it is a lucky dip. You can then visit that site and donate to that particular charity if you so wish. Alternatively scroll down the page to find descriptions, addresses and contacts of many charities in alphabetical order.

Also available is a page that promotes volunteering and job opportunities within the charity sector or alternatively visit various charities websites to see what they have on offer.

There are also numerous charities that can assist in providing holidays for the disabled, disadvantaged families and bereaved children so there is a page promoting holidays of this nature along with accommodation ranging from self catering, bed and breakfasts, camp sites, caravans and hotels both in UK and abroad.

At our heart is a unique and powerful combination of Expert and comprehensive knowledge about rare disorders and all aspects of disability, a wealth of personal experience and contacts; and an approach driven first and foremost by parents' point of view. Our aim is never to dictate to families, but always to enable them to organise their own systems of support and contact. If this is 'enabling rather than running' approach that allows us to deliver social change far beyond our resources and size. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the uk's most common, life threatening inherited disease. CF affects vital organs in the body, especially the lungs and pancreas, by literally clogging them with a thick sticky mucus. Average life expectancy is around 30 years. At present there is no cure for Cystic Fibrosis. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust was founded in 1964. It is the only national charity solely concerned with the welfare of people with Cystic Fibrosis. It funds medical and scientific research aimed at understanding, treating and curing CF. The CF Trust receives no government funding and relies on the support of companies, trusts, individuals, CF families and friends. There is clear evidence that the lung disease, which claims 90% of the young lives lost to Cystic Fibrosis, will be controlled by gene therapy. In this way, CF expects to be the first major condition to benefit from the new understanding of genetics. This will cost an additional £15 million over five years. To achieve this we need your help.

International Animal Rescue is a small hands-on rescue organisation dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of suffering animals. IAR started working in India just five years ago, by introducing a sterilisation and vaccination programme to control the population and spread of disease amongst the huge stray dog population in Goa. We have treated over 50,000 animals in our veterinary clinic and rescue centre, where we also treat indigenous wildlife, including snakes, monkeys and the hundreds of 'sacred' cows that roam the streets and beaches. With the help of our supporters in the UK, visitors and travellers in India, we have managed to spread our work further south and have recently started a second rescue centre in Kerala. In December 2002, IAR helped complete the first sactuary for the long suffering 'dancing' bears in India near Agra. We rescued the first 6 bears on Christmas Eve and during 2003 we have rescued a total of 55 bears, including 6 cubs. These poor orphaned bears are now free to live out their days without constant pain and torture. Additional land has been donated in order to expand the sanctuary and with over 1000 bears still suffering on the streets, we need to raise the necessary funds to build additional quarantine areas and security walling before we can rescue more bears. Our goal is to rescue 200 bears in 2004, and continue our campaigning/fundraising until we can stamp out this cruel practice for good. In Malta, we treat birds injured, as a result, of the indiscriminate shooting of all migratory birds - from British songbirds to Ospreys. Our campaigning has helped change animal welfare laws and enforce them by supplying the Police with a high-speed patrol boat. In the UK we run a network of trained volunteers providing an emergency rescue service to treat and refloat stranded whales, dolphins and injured seals. We plan to build a desperately needed seal hospital in Scotland. We cannot continue this work without your support. Please consider becoming a regualr supporter or pledging a lasting legacy that will provide a sanctuary for bears, dogs, cats, seals and other animals in the future. Please pledge your support to The International Animal Rescue, by visiting our Website, and help save an animal's life today. Please make cheques payable to, 'International Animal Rescue' to the usual address, available on our Website.
